Boundary Road access reopens as Marine Centre nears completion
We’re pleased to share an important milestone for the Upper Waitematā Marine Centre.
The Boundary Road route connecting Catalina Bay to Bomb Point Reserve is now reopening (24th March 2026), after being closed for around three years during construction of the Marine Centre.
This restores a key local connection and allows people to once again move through this part of Hobsonville Point.
As access reopens, you’ll be able to walk past the Marine Centre and see the building up close for the first time.
What to expect
The Boundary Road route is now open to the public
A new accessible public toilet has been installed (opening shortly, pending final sign-off)
Vegetation along the route and access to Harrier Point has been cleared
Dinghy storage is being relocated to a new area nearby
While this is a big step forward, some work is still being completed:
Landscaping of planting areas is still to come
Level 2 of the building remains closed while final works are completed, including lift installation and deck safety features
Full practical completion of the building is expected in early April
The Upper Waitematā Marine Centre is a community-led project, built and supported by volunteers from right here in Hobsonville Point. This milestone reflects the significant time and effort contributed to bring the project to life.
Coming soon: public social memberships
We’ll shortly be opening public social memberships, giving more people the opportunity to be part of the Marine Centre.
If you’d like to stay up to date and be first to hear when memberships open, you can join our mailing list here:

We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete the final stages and look forward to sharing more very soon.
