Code of Conduct

The Upper Waitematā Marine Centre is a shared community facility. We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for everyone who uses or visits the Centre.

This Code of Conduct applies to:

  • Social members

  • Visitors

  • Volunteers

  • Contractors

  • Licensed Organisations and their members

  • Anyone attending events at UWMC

1. Respect for People

We expect everyone at UWMC to:

  • Treat others with courtesy and respect.

  • Act in a way that supports a safe and inclusive environment.

  • Respect different backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.

  • Follow reasonable directions from authorised personnel.

Bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.

2. Health and Safety

Health and safety is a shared responsibility.

While at UWMC, you must:

  • Take reasonable care for your own safety.

  • Ensure your actions do not put others at risk.

  • Follow all safety signage and instructions.

  • Report hazards, accidents, injuries, or near misses.

  • Participate in required inductions where applicable.

If you see something unsafe — say something.

3. Facility Use

UWMC is a shared space.

All users must:

  • Use facilities, equipment, and common areas responsibly.

  • Leave spaces clean and tidy after use.

  • Respect booking systems and shared access arrangements.

  • Follow any site-specific procedures or access rules.

Damage to property caused by misuse or negligence may result in costs being recovered.

4. Licensed Organisations

UWMC is home to independent clubs and organisations.

  • Each Licensed Organisation manages its own activities, including on-water operations.

  • Members of those organisations must follow their club’s rules and safety procedures.

  • UWMC social membership does not grant access to club equipment or club-run activities.

5. Alcohol and Substance Use

  • Alcohol may only be consumed in authorised areas and during approved events.

  • No person may attend or remain on site while impaired by alcohol or drugs in a way that creates risk to themselves or others.

6. Children and Young People

  • Children must be supervised appropriately.

  • Parents and guardians are responsible for the behaviour and safety of minors while on site.

7. Photography and Media

Photography may occur at public events for communication and promotional purposes.
If you do not wish to be photographed, please notify UWMC staff or organisers.

8. Environmental Responsibility

We value our coastal environment.

All users must:

  • Dispose of waste responsibly.

  • Avoid pollution of land or water.

  • Respect the surrounding marine environment.

9. Breaches of This Code

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in:

  • A warning

  • Removal from the facility

  • Suspension or cancellation of membership

  • Referral to the relevant Licensed Organisation (where applicable)

  • Further action where required under law

  • Providing a safe and well-maintained facility

  • Coordinating health and safety across the site

  • Supporting positive collaboration between user groups

  • Continually improving our systems and culture
