UWMC Progress Update – June 2025
Reflections of Change
We’ve reached a major milestone... the Upper Waitematā Marine Centre is now about halfway through construction. Framing is complete, and in the coming weeks, roof sheeting and exterior cladding will be installed. That means interior work can continue through winter, even if the weather slows things down outside.
The full scale of the building is now clearly visible from the coastal walkway... and it’s looking fantastic. Once complete, the Centre will be one of the top marine facilities in Auckland, serving clubs, schools, and the wider Hobsonville community.
Here’s what’s happening now:
🛠️ Interior fit-out will begin once the roof and walls are in place.
🚶♂️ The coastal walkway beside the Centre is still closed for safety during construction. It will be fully reopened once the project is complete, with new features like a public toilet, coffee kiosk, and café access.
🛶 Dinghy racks provided by Auckland Council will return to the area once construction wraps up. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To secure a spot or ask questions, please contact Gavin Gunston at gavin@neighbourhoods.nz.
The Trust is also working hard behind the scenes to plan how the Centre will run once open... ready to support a wide range of marine sports, learning, and community activity.
