Progress Update – July 2025
Construction
Work on the Marine Centre at Catalina Bay is continuing. The main structure is up and the build is mostly on schedule, despite some recent weather delays. Roofing and interior fitout are next steps.
Funding
Funding from Auckland Council, Foundation North, NZCT, and the Upper Harbour Local Board has been confirmed. Local families and other supporters have also contributed (see who they are here: https://www.uwmc.org.nz/supporters). The budget is under pressure from rising costs, but major payments are on track.
Fitout
Planning continues for the fitout, including furniture, signage, and displays. We are collecting quotes for tables, chairs, and other key items. Some areas… like rowing racking and upstairs fitout… are still being costed and may require further fundraising or grants.
Special thanks to Blaire Tubman from Work Furniture NZ for providing sample furniture for both indoor and outdoor use. Trustees have been able to test these options and are working to select the most suitable pieces for the Centre.
Opening Event
Plans for an opening event are underway. We’ll share details when a date is confirmed.
Founders Pledge
If you’d like to support the Marine Centre as a Founding Family or Founding Supporter, you can still make a pledge. Founders will be recognised on our website and in the new Centre. Click here for more details: https://www.uwmc.org.nz/founders-pledge
Updates
We’ll continue to post updates here and on our social media as we reach key milestones. Questions and feedback from the community are always welcome.
