Progress Update - November 2025
We’re starting to see the physical shape of the Upper Waitematā Marine Centre coming into view, with visible changes now happening on site. The project continues to make steady progress, and a few key developments are worth noting this month.
TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read)
Some scaffolding is starting to come down
Revised completion date now March/April 2026
Membership structure being finalised
Founding Families Pledge still open: https://www.uwmc.org.nz/founders-pledge
Construction update
The building team is making strong progress, and the structure is starting to reveal itself as some of the scaffolding comes down. It’s an exciting moment for the project and a sign that we’re heading into the final stages of construction. The core structure is in place, and work is now focused on the fit-out and finishing details.
Timeline adjustment
Due to delays with some materials, we’ve had to shift the expected completion date slightly. The new timeframe for opening is now March or April 2026. While this is a few months later than first planned, it will ensure the centre is finished to a high standard and fully ready for use.
Membership model in development
We’re now in the final stages of confirming the centre’s membership structure. This will outline how local clubs and community members can access the facility once it opens. We’re aiming to make it simple, fair, and supportive of long-term use. More details will be shared soon.
Support the centre through the Founding Families Pledge
Thanks to everyone who has already pledged their support. If you haven’t yet, there’s still time to join the Founding Families Pledge. Your contribution helps us complete the build and ensures this will be a centre the whole community can be proud of.
